Located in the heart of Brooklyn’s vibrant Sunset Park neighborhood, Tacos Matamoros delivers an authentic Mexican dining experience that vividly captures the spirited flavors and culture of Latin America. This Mexican restaurant and bar is a must-visit for anyone seeking genuine, soulful comida Mexicana along with a lively atmosphere that pulses with energy and warmth.
The menu at Tacos Matamoros is a celebration of classic Mexican dishes done exceptionally well, from beloved Tacos like the richly savory Suadero Taco and perfectly seasoned Steak Tacos to hearty entrees such as the Carne Asada Burrito and the elegantly spiced Pipian Verde de Pollo con Tamal de Frijolo Tortillas. The Matamoros-Style Chicken, pan-fried and served with asparagus, mushrooms, jalapeños, and a tangy lemon sauce, offers a comforting balance of zest and tender succulence, leaving an unforgettable impression on the palate.
Seafood lovers will be drawn to the refreshing Shrimp Tacos and the chilled, zesty Shrimp Cocktail Camarones, both bursting with vibrant flavors that evoke the coastal flavors of Mexico. For those who enjoy a bit of spice and texture, the Chorizo Nachos with their traditional Mexican sausage make for a perfect shareable starter, paired wonderfully with freshly made guacamole and salsa. The menu also invites you to explore lesser-known gems like the Barbacoa de Chivo, a tender, oven-roasted goat served with classic sides.
Complement your meal with the bar’s tempting cocktails—whether it’s a frosty Frozen Margarita, a tropical Piña Colada, or the refreshing zest of a Mojito. The sangria and apple martini options provide additional flair for those looking to sip something unique with their feast.
Walking into Tacos Matamoros immediately transports you to a spirited and authentic Mexican setting. The bustling atmosphere is infused with the sounds of laughter, lively conversations, and occasional surprise visits from mariachis, crafting an immersive cultural experience. Though the vibe is energetic and sometimes loud, it only adds to the charm and genuine Sunset Park energy that so many patrons rave about.

We love, love Tacos Matamoros, this is our place to go for authentic, delicious Mexican food and at a great price!! We live in Queens and keep driving to Brooklyn because we love it here. Even if we have to wait, we don’t mind because we know it will totally be worth it!!
First time visiting. Glad for the local recommendation. Loved the atmosphere - immediately transported to a different vibe when you enter thru the doors. We got the pork chop platter, tacos and torta. The family cleaned their plates. Can’t wait to try the ceviche next time and other items on the menu. Friendly and kind staff - mainly spoke Spanish but will be able to accommodate basic service in English. We knew enough to communicate in Spanish.
Tacos Matamoros is one of the most authentic and tastiest spots in the area. The food is full of flavor, the prices are fair, and the atmosphere is pure Sunset Park energy. Yes, it gets loud — but that’s part of the charm! Between the flowing margaritas, the laughter, and the surprise visits from mariachis, it’s not just a restaurant — it’s an experience. Perfect for big families or anyone craving a true local vibe. And seriously — don’t leave without trying at least one margarita.
There was a piece of a rubber glove finger in my torta. Not cool Tacos Matamoros. Also, the cook doesn’t know what over medium eggs are.
After always eating tacos from the trucks, decided to try restaurant taco. Tacos were good but I guess our expectations were too high. Honestly the taco trucks on 5th ave might have the edge. Nachos were really good, especially the green sauce, a real good kick.
I've dined here almost weekly for near 2 years. It's been consistently good food and good vibes. I will say that weekends specifically evening it can get extremely busy wait time can be up to 30 minutes or more. If that doesn't put you off then I'd say you'd enjoy the food. I usually alternate between a quesadilla or enchiladas rojas al estilo matamoros. It's good and it's not pricey.
Can get loud with live Mariachis. Food was good Lots of food options to choose. Margaritas were good. Recommend the pitcher!
Let me tell you. I love this food. Service was very good, portions were good, prices are not bad at all
